I reread Wilder, the first book in the Renegades series by Rebecca Yarros, in preparation for reading the recently released Nova, book two. I loved Wilder just as much the second time around. The story was captivating and well written with the characters well developed. Paxton Wilder was the gorgeous, cocky, confident, fun-loving adrenaline junky that led the Renegades - a band of Extreme Sports athletes. He was also a 5 times Gold Medal winner at the X Games. Leah Baxter was the beautiful, intelligent, kind hearted student that was assigned as Paxton's tutor for the nine month Study at Sea Program. Paxton and Leah were complete opposites, yet the perfect pairing. We learned quickly that Paxton had a hidden agenda, which was revealed in pieces throughout the book. Yarros then added complexity and depth to the storyline with a separate mystery/suspense theme. Yarros used Wilder as the foundation for the series to set the stage for each Renegade story. Although the main character storyline came to a happy for now conclusion, the overall storyline will continue throughout each book. I desired an epilogue or at least a glance into the future so I'm hopeful Yarros will continue Paxton and Leah's development throughout the series. I can't wait to dig into Landon aka Nova's story next. I fell in love with him already. He's troubled and broken and I look forward to experiencing his story.
